2D Avatar Design – Mafia Mystery Mobile App
I collaborated with the game developer of Mafia Mystery to conceptualize and design a series of 2D avatars for the mobile platform. After generating initial ideas together, I created and vectorized the final character designs in Adobe Illustrator, ensuring stylistic consistency and clarity within the game interface.
Throughout the process, I maintained ongoing communication with the developer, incorporating feedback and refining the designs to align with gameplay needs and overall visual direction. This project strengthened my ability to design within constraints while adapting creatively through iteration.
Mood boards
The first step when designing the avatars is to make a mood board to get an idea of the general direction I want to go in, from aesthetics to color and my inspiration for the project
Iteration
I then design the avatars in Procreate and Abode Illustrator where I go through multiple rounds of drafts and iteration to get the final product. Throughout the process I focus a lot on how to design the avatars to be captivating while fitting withing the stylized aesthetics of the game. Additionally, each avatar can be broken into parts including the head, body, and accessories, so during the design process I also consider how to different parts will work with existing avatars and if they look cohesive in the game
Final Product
Once the designs are complete I make scalable vector graphics of them in Adobe Illustrator, which are them added into the game.
